LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- FOX is giving viewers a holiday treat on Saturday, July 4.

Network sources have confirmed to the site exclusively that the two-hour pilot to "Virtuality" will air on said night at 8:00/7:00c.

Co-created by Michael Taylor and Ronald D. Moore ("Battlestar Galactica"), the sci-fi drama revolves around the crew of the Phaeton, Earth's first starship. To endure the 10-year journey, the astronauts use virtual reality modules which allow them to assume avatars and explore self-created scenarios. But just as the mission is about to enter its critical go/no-go phase, a virus begins to infect the system and puts all of their lives on the line.

The show's ensemble cast includes Clea DuVall, Erik Jensen, Gene Farber, James D'Arcy, Jimmi Simpson, Jose Pablo Cantillo, Joy Bryant, Kerry Bishe, Nelson Lee, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Omar Metwally, Richie Coster and Sienna Guillory.

Peter Berg helmed the Universal Media Studios-based pilot and executive produced alongside Taylor, Moore, Gail Berman, Lloyd Braun and Sarah Aubrey.


Zašto preko LJETA?! Istina, mislio sam da je serija mrtva kad se o njoj ništa ne priča, al ovo je preočajno... Ne znam što ih je potaklo na ovo, al ne vjerujem da planiraju nastavit sa serijom ako će emitirat pilot u SUBOTU u SRPNJU. -.-'

Ne kužim ni ja što se s tom serijom dogodilo Mislim da je serija krenula sa snimanjem taman negdje nakon štrajka, dok je još bila ludnica sa pilot sezonom, i znam da sam pratio šta će biti s tom serijom i onom SF komedijom Boldly Going Nowhere... I onda je FOX objavio jesenski raspored bez te 2 serije, i rekli su da razmatraju mogućnost da ih stave u midseasonu, al od tog nije bilo ništ I evo, praktički prvi put čujem sad za Virtuality od negdje 1. mjeseca Čudno mi je što će i ovo emitirat, nije baš rutina mreža da emitiraju pilote koje su odbacili...

Pa imaš samo NBCeve serije na njihovoj stranici... Nijedna druga mreža nije objavila nove serije...

Nickelodeon has ordered “Kung Fu Panda: The Series,” a new CG-animated comedy based on last year’s boxoffice hit.

The kids network has ordered 26 episodes of the series, Nick’s second co-production with DreamWorks Animation SKG. The two companies also partnered on “The Penguins of Madagascar,” which premiered March 28 on Nick and ranked as the most-watched series premiere in the network’s history (6.1 million viewers). Since then, “Penguins” has become the second most-popular program among kids 6-11 on television, behind only "SpongeBob SquarePants."

“Our seamless collaboration with DreamWorks Animation has now reached an anticipated 78 half-hours of unparalleled television CG animation,” said Brown Johnson, president of animation for Nickelodeon. “With the pick-up of ‘Kung Fu Panda: The Series,’ we are thrilled to be bringing to our audience the rich stories and energy-packed character and action sequences Po the panda delivered on the big screen.”

“Panda” is based on DreamWorks’ “Kung Fu Panda” which has grossed over $630 million at the worldwide boxoffice and is the studio’s most successful original feature film. The series will premiere next year.

Comedy Central is expanding its animation slate and ordering a new show from former "Simpsons" writer David Stern.

The new half-hour series is tentatively titled "Ugly Americans" and set in an alternate-universe New York City where fantasy and sci-fi creatures live among us as ordinary citizens. The show centers on a human social worker for the Department of Immigration who helps newcomers, both human and otherwise, adjust to life in the city. The seven-episode order is set to premiere early next year.

Now here comes the benevolent "our show is perfect escapist programming for a bad economy" quote:

"During these tough economic times our viewers need a good laugh now more than ever," said Lauren Corrao, president, original programming and development. "With the pick-up of 'Ugly Americans,' our viewers will be able to escape into a fantasy world like they've never seen before."

Gah. Please. Quit it.

More: The network is also developing a Jamie Foxx workplace comedy based on his Sirius/SM satellite radio program, "The Foxxhole;" "Gypsy Cab," starring "30 Rock's" Judah Friedlander as a cab driver; and "The Invadersteins," the story of a family of aliens who stayed behind after an alien invasion of Earth failed from Dan Vebber (producer roles on "Futurama," "American Dad"). The network also announced premiere dates for previously announced new series "Tosh.0" (June 4 at 10 p.m.), "Michael & Michael Have Issues" (July 15 at 10:30 p.m.) and "Secret Girlfriend" (Oct. 14 at 10:30 p.m.).

Comedy Central also ordered pilots for an untitled Ron White show featuring in-studio and man-on-the-street segments; a sports comedy show from the Sklar brothers (executive produced by Michael Eisner) that centers around two brothers who are the heirs to a major sports conglomerate; a sketch-variety show from Andy Dick; "The Life," which follows a one-hit wonder music star (executive produced and written by Ice Cube and DJ Pooh in their first project together since the hit film "Friday"); "Ghosts/Aliens," about two friends' quest to expose the truth about the existence of ghosts and aliens (executive produced by Scott Aversano and Phil Johnston); and "Midwest Teen Sex Show," an "instructional" sex sketch show (executive produced by Principato-Young and Double Features).

Steven Spielberg is pursuing Noah Wyle to headline his untitled alien-invasion pilot for TNT, sources confirm to me exclusively.

The potential series -- which was announced last month at TNT's upfront presentation -- takes place six months after evil extra terrestrials decimate mankind. Wyle would play the leader of a ragtag group of citizens who try to bring down the aggressors.

Translation: It's Spielberg's take on V!

The gig would mark a small-screen reunion for ex-TV doc Wyle and Spielberg; the Oscar-winning director was one of ER's founding producers. It would also keep Wyle in business with TNT, the network behind his super-fun* Librarian movies.

A TNT spokesperson declined to comment.
