Parenthood
« on: 04 May, 2009., 17:11:58 CEST »

From the executive producers of the box-office hit "Parenthood" -- Ron Howard and Brian Grazer (Oscar winners for "A Beautiful Mind"), and writer/executive producer Jason Katims ("Friday Night Lights") -- this contemporary re-imagining of the blockbuster film depicts the colorful and imperfect Braverman family -- four grown siblings sharing the headaches, heartaches and joy of being parents. The star-studded cast includes Peter Krause, Maura Tierney, Craig T. Nelson, Dax Shepard, Bonnie Bedelia, Monica Potter, Erika Christensen and Sarah Ramos. When Sarah Braverman (Tierney, "ER"), a financially strapped single mother, returns home to her parents and siblings in Berkeley, Calif. after packing up her Fresno apartment and uprooting her two inconvenienced kids, Amber (Mae Whitman, "In Treatment") and Drew (Miles Heizer, "ER"), she is greeted by her opinionated father, Zeek (Nelson, "Family Stone," "Coach"), and strong mother, Camille (Bedelia, "Heart Like a Wheel"), who are privately dealing with their own marital issues. As Sarah is reunited with her siblings -- sister, Julia (Christensen, "Traffic"), and brothers Crosby (Shepard, "Baby Mama") and Adam (Krause, "Six Feet Under") -- all struggling with issues of their own, it's clear that the Braverman reunion is just what they need to face the everyday challenges of modern family life. "Parenthood" is a production from Imagine Entertainment and Universal Media Studios. Emmy winner Thomas Schlamme ("The West Wing") directs the pilot.

Pros: All-around good cast. Strong pilot script from Jason Katims, very un-showy direction of pilot by Thomas Schlamme fits the material.

Cons: A little speechy here and there

I liked this one a lot. Katims has the very tough task of living up to his "Friday Night Lights" standard. "Parenthood" didn't quite hit me with the same thunderbolt as "FNL," but it's oozing with potential by the end of the pilot

I liked the distinctiveness of the setting (Berkeley/Bay Area), and the foundation of the sprawling Braverman family of four adult siblings dealing with their own children of various ages and emotional states. There was great detail and specificity that gave the characters immediate depth and, well, character right away.

There's a lot of plot and character development going on in the script, perhaps a hair too much at times. But in the main it delivers a lot of info without getting terribly bogged down in exposition. Some of roughest patches seemed to be out of the mouths of the teenage characters, which is a little surprising since "FNL" has excelled at portraying high schoolers in a credible way. But this is a minor quibble.

Among a uniformly good cast, Maura Tierney stands out in the pilot as Sarah Braverman, the daughter who instigates much of the basic plot by moving back with her parents in Berkeley after hitting hard times with her teenage kids in Fresno.

Craig T. Nelson is very good as patriarch Zeek. Bonnie Bedelia doesn't have a whole lot to do in the pilot as matriarch Camille, but there's clearly more coming for her. Dax Shepard makes a good impression as bohemian brother Crosby. Of the younger thesps, Mae Whitman impresses in the pilot as Sarah's feisty, growing-up-in-a-hurry daughter, Amber.

Can't help but wonder how an family ensembler without a built-in marketing hook will fare on NBC. Let's hope viewers are drawn in by the familiarity of the 1989 movie (though there are few similarities, as I recall) and then suitably dazzled by the solid thesp roster.

:top: Upravo ono što sam očekivao i čemu sam se nadao od kritičara :D Mislim da će ovo biti jako dobro :D :D

Da, stvarno :(

NBC's new fall drama series "Parenthood" has been pushed to midseason because of an illness of one of the stars, Maura Tierney.

The series, a contemporary reimagining of the 1989 feature, had been scheduled to begin filming July 27. The production start of the Universal Media Studios/Imagine TV-produced show is now tentatively scheduled for late September.

"Start of production on NBC Universal's new series 'Parenthood' has been postponed for eight weeks due to medical evaluation that valued cast member Maura Tierney is undergoing," NBC said in a statement. "The top priority for NBC, Universal Media Studios and Imagine Television is the well-being of Ms. Tierney. We are unable to release further details and ask that you respect her privacy at this time."

"Parenthood" revolves around four siblings (Peter Krause, Tierney, Erika Christensen, Dax Shepard) and their parents (Bonnie Bedelia and Craig T. Nelson).

As a result of the delay, NBC is making a change on its fall schedule.

Evo opširnije:

"Parenthood" had been slated to premiere Sept. 23 and run in the Wednesday 8 p.m. hour.

With "Parenthood" pushed, new drama "Mercy," which was to take over the Wednesday 8 p.m. slot in midseason, will launch in the fall. The cast and crew of the medical drama have been summoned to start work on the series early to have it ready for a September debut. It is not clear yet if "Mercy" will air Wednesdays at 8 p.m. as NBC is re-evaluating its fall scheduling plans.

This is the second time filming on "Parenthood" has been put on hold under unfortunate circumstances. In April, production on the pilot was shut down for two days after NBC's vp drama Nora O'Brien died unexpectedly on the Berkeley, Calif., set of the show.

Tierney, 44, who has been public about her long struggle to quit smoking, is best known for her 10-year stint as Dr. Abby Lockhart on "ER," for which she earned an Emmy nomination.

She also starred on another Peacock series, comedy "NewsRadio," and has appeared in a number of features, including "Insomnia" and "Baby Mama."

"Parenthood" -- whose cast also includes Potter, Sarah Ramos, Mae Whitman and Miles Heizer -- was penned by "Friday Night Lights" creator Jason Katims, who is exec producing with Ron Howard and Brian Grazer.

"Mercy," from writer/exec producer Liz Heldens and exec producers Gretchen Berg, Aaron Harberts, Gail Berman and Lloyd Braun, chronicles the lives of the staff at Mercy Hospital through the eyes of three nurses (Taylor Schilling, Michelle Trachtenberg and Jaime Lee Kirchner).

The cast of the series also includes James Tupper, Guillermo Diaz, Delroy Lindo, James LeGros and Diego Klattenhoff.

Mercy? :ne zna: To će otkazat nakon 4-5 epizoda... :ne zna:
A Parenthood će postat ukleta serija sa svim tim bolestima i smrću
Baš sam se radovao seriji :(

Maura Tierney has just released a statement to clear up rumors regarding her health. Last week, NBC announced that it was delaying the fall launch of her new drama, Parenthood, while the actress underwent a "medical evaluation."

"In an effort to guard my privacy, it seems that the wording of NBC's press release has unfortunately caused some confusion and undue alarm about my health. I have discovered a tumor in my breast which requires surgery. I will not know either my exact diagnosis or course of treatment until that surgery is performed. My doctors have all assured me this is a very treatable condition. I'm very optimistic as to the outcome and want to thank everyone who has sent positive thoughts and support. I look forward to going back to work soon."

Send positive energy Maura's way via the comments section below!

Maura Tierney has pulled from NBC's upcoming drama series "Parenthood" because of a scheduling conflict between the show's production and her breast cancer treatments.

NBC has begun the process of recasting her role in the project based on the 1980s movie, written and executive produced by Jason Katims.

"Ms. Tierney and her doctors remain confident that the outcome of her treatments will be positive," Tierney's spokeswoman said Thursday. "She is deeply disappointed that she will not be able to rejoin such a highly respected, talented, fun and funny group of actors and wishes to thank Jason Katims and NBC for their patience and support."

"Parenthood," in which Tierney plays one of the central characters, was originally slated to premiere this month but was pushed to midseason in July when, shortly before the series was to go into production, Tierney's doctors discovered a tumor in her breast.

At the time, production start date was postponed until November to give Tierney time to undergo the necessary medical procedures.

It now appears Tierney's treatment will take longer, leading to NBC's decision to recast the role in order to make the midseason launch date.

"While we are saddened that Maura Tierney won't be able to continue in her current role in 'Parenthood,' our main concern is for her quick and full recovery," an NBC spokesman said. "Our thoughts and best wishes are with her."

This just in: Helen Hunt is apparently no longer in the running to replace Maura Tierney in Parenthood. According to an insider, talks between the actress and NBC fell apart and the role of single mom Sarah has now been offered to (wait for it) Lauren Graham! I’m told the Gilmore Girls MVP recently met with Parenthood boss Jason Katims (dream team alert!) to discuss the plum part.

Can you imagine?! I can and it’s awesome!
